 The Japan Foundation, Manila, together with the Embassy of Japan, celebrates the Philippines-Japan Friendship Month this July with the traveling exhibition, “Japan: Kingdom of Characters.”

The exhibit, to start on July 7 (Thursday) at the Tall Galleries in the Metropolitan Museum of Manila, focuses on the characters that fill the world of anime and manga and how they have come to permeate into the daily landscape of Japanese life. Beyond Akihabara and Harajuku, ground zeroes for anime and manga geekery in Tokyo, one can find the characters even on bank passbooks and train passes, in supermarkets and vending machines. “Japan: Kingdom of Characters” gives Philippine anime and manga fans a chance to closely examine the cultural and historical background behind the Japanese love of characters and the future of characters in contemporary Japan.

Divided into three sections, the first part of the exhibit examines the changes in Japanese society from the 1950’s (when Astro Boy made his manga debut) to the present and the characters that have emerged in each decade—from the classic geek favorites Ultraman, Masked Rider and Mobile Suit Gundam to more recent beloved children characters Chibi Maruko Chan, Pokemon and Tamagotchi, among many others.

The second section showcases the bond the Japanese have with characters from a faithful reproduction of a high-school girl’s room completely filled with Hello Kitty. A final section, dubbed “The Future of Characters,” looks at the emerging forms of characters. It also gives a glimpse on some of the factors that play a vital role in their future development, such as the rise of new Internet and computer software and the prevalence of anime-based cosplay.

“We hope that through this exhibition, the viewer might come to better understand the close and extremely futuristic relationship that the Japanese people have with characters,” says Aihara Hiroyuki, President of Character Research Institute Co., Ltd in Japan.

Other activities included in the Philippines-Japan Friendship Month are the 2011 Eiga Sai, which will screen several acclaimed Japanese movies in Metro Manila, Cebu, and Davao; and a free concert and workshop featuring Japanese acoustic instrumentalists Aki & Kuniko in the Carlos P. Romulo Auditorium in RCBC Plaza, Makati City, College of Music in UP Diliman and at the Conspiracy Garden Bar in Quezon City.

Japan: Kingdon of Characters is open to the public on July 8 and will run until August 20 at the Tall Galleries. Noted…!!!!  Now all I need is to find someone who could accompany me to see this event.

Its the twins 5th bday (06-20-06) ^__^ We were planning to visit Avilon Zoo in Montalban but due to the bad weather we just cancelled it. We celebrated the twins bday at their school gave some packed meals to their classmates and teachers. Its my first time to visit Maries Christian School and I feel nostalgic upon entering their super cute classroom I really miss being a student. One kid asked me “Ate why are you wearing eyeglasses? So i told her that i have blurry vision and she said “You dont eat your veggies thats why you have blurry vision! So you better eat your veggies! OMG thats 5 year old kid! She’s definitely a bibbo kid hahaha..

Company Outing at Bataan…

After 3 1/2 hours on the road we finally reached Morong Bataan… If I’m going to rate the venue,the beach and the accommodation I’ll give them 3 out of 10.. What a disappointing venue.. Good thing the bar, tanduay ice and san mig light did’nt let me down i rather drink and enjoy the music than to go swimming..

On our last team building I couldn’t go swimming because of my “RED ALERT” so I assumed during our company outing that my frickin red alert wont let me enjoy again.. And I was right.. Dianna and I wasn’t able to go swimming so we roam around the resort and saw a pair of ostrich.. And look at their egg’s thats hugeee…!

Team Prime’s agents.. Our TL didn’t join the outing so as my other teammates so Maggie and I  joined others teams on their nomo session..

Walking on the beach barefoot or just to strolling around the resort in the early morning was the best part of this outing.. 

Wooh I’m loving my floral dress.. (ako na ang nakadaster so what?) :P

Our 1st Team Building Outing at Antipps Stone House Antipolo…

After shift we went straight to Upper Antipolo to celebrate our new schedule next week and its our first team building outing..

We had fun enjoying quality time with our families and our teammates. Until our next team building guys.. Wish ko lang out of metro manila naman ha!
